Records broken as Marlins tie NCR

The Marlins tied NCR @home on Saturday (272 points each), with the result coming down to the relays at the end of the meet. The Marlins (Under first year coach Emily Olson), had an exciting meet@home, with 15 different Marlin swimmers netting 24 wins. Way to go Marlins!

Kazuki Reeves broke the 13-14 50M Backstroke record, swimming 31.88. The previous record was 32.08 held by Thomas Brown de Colstoun set in 2013. Audrey Mima broke her own Breaststroke record, going 36.98 in the 15-18 50M Breaststroke. Amazing!

For the Boys, Triple winners were Dillion Mossman (15-18 Fly, Free, IM) and Kazuki Reeves (13-14 Breaststroke, Back, IM). Several boys won individual events. Kenneth Herrera (11-12 50M Fly), Carlos Idol (13-14 50M Fly), Christian Martinez Castro (11-12 50M Free), Dale Armand (13-14 50M Free),Ellis Kposowa (8U 25 Breaststroke) and David Henkin (8U 25M Backstroke).

For the Girls, Triple winners were Audrey Mima (15-18 Fly, Breaststroke, IM) and Sachi Reeves (11-12 Fly Breaststroke, IM). Several individual event winners were Olamipo Osifade (8U Free), Genesis Usquiano (13-14 Free), Catherine Norton (15-18 Free) and Brianna Mullis, (15-18 Back)

Marlins home opener vs Laurel City

The Marlins are now 1-1 in the PMSL E division after Saturday’s meet with Laurel City (LC). The Marlins had several wins and some close second places falling to LC 339-201. LC had acquired several swimmers from a folding Patuxent Greens swim team to give them a clear advantage in depth.

Some really fast races were witnessed between MC’s Kazuki Reeves vs Allen Bui, and MC’s Dillion Mossman vs Ari Jenkins. Very Exciting!

For the MC Girls, Double winners were Sachi Reeves in the 11-12 50 Fly and 50 Breaststroke, and Genesis Usquiano in the 13-14 Fly and Freestyle. Single winners were SaNiah Hebron in the 8U 25 Free, Anna Hughes in the 8U Breaststroke, Soleil Shah in the 9-10 50 Backstroke and Julia Tenny in the 15-18 100 Free.

For the MC Boys, Winners were Kazuki Reeves in the 13-14 50 Fly, Oliver Euceda in the 9-10 50 Free, Lincoln Kposowa in the 9-10 50 Breaststroke, and Dillion Mossman in the 15-18 50M Backstroke with a very fast time of 31.50.

The Marlins welcomed Marlin’s Alum Emily Olson as head coach for the 2024 season.

Audrey Mima breaks 45 year old Marlins Breaststroke Record!

The Marlins Audrey Mima, swimming at this weekend’s PMSL Divisionals,  breaks a 45 year old Marlins team record. Audrey set a new Girls 15-18 50M Breaststroke Record, swimming the event in 37.57.  The record was previously held by Lisa Kessler.  Congratulations Audrey!

Michael Venit Crushes IM Record @MC hosted Laurel Invitationals

The 40th annual Laurel Invitationals was hosted Sunday @MC Pool.  This was a chance to square off against cross town rivals which included West Arundel, Laurel City, Russett, West Laurel and Montpelier swim clubs.

Michael Venit, swimming for West Arundel, set 3! individual LI records, winning the Boys 15-18 50M Breaststroke in 29.88, 50M Backstroke in 27.59 and the 100IM in 59.07. Congratulations Michael!

For the Marlins, Dale Armand won the Boys 11-12 50M Free in 35.20 in a swim to the finish, nice work Dale!  Kazuki Reeves had a very exciting race in the the Boys 13-14 100IM with a photo finish. This race was so close, that the winner (Ari Jenkins of LC), was decided on the timers watches, picking the middle time of each lane’s three timers.

GM@MC

The Marlins were handed their third loss of the season falling to Greenbelt Municipal (GB 232, Marlins 203).  The Marlins had several good swims but also were deluged with DQ’s.

For the Boys, Kazuki Reeves and Carlos Idol won all 3 of their events. Oliver Euceda won 2 events, taking first in the 8U Freestyle and Backstroke. A very exciting race was won by Nathan DeMik, who won the 13-14 50m Breaststroke in 42:39.

For the Girls, Avila Tenney, won the 8U 25m Breaststroke in 47:45.  In a close and exciting race, SaNiah Hebron was out touched in the Girls 8U 25 Freestyle and placed second.

The 8U Mixed freestyle relay also won (SaNiah Hebron, Avila Tenney, Kyano Louis and Oliver Euceda).  Lets hear it for the youngsters!

Wahoos@Marlins

The Marlins second home meet against the West Laurel Wahoos was exciting to watch with some close races and some much improved swims.  The Marlins, ended short, losing the meet 295 (Wahoos) to 223 (Marlins).  Mathew DeMik was honored for his many years as a Marlin with a swim-out ceremony.  Thank you Mathew!

The Boys started the meet with a big win in the 18U 200m Medley Relay (Dillion Mossman, Mathew DeMik, Kazuki Reeves and Jayden Inman) winning with a time of 223:24.

Winning all 3 of their events, were Carlos Idol (11-12 Butterfly, Breaststroke and IM) and Kazuki Reeves (13-14 Butterfly, Backstroke & IM).  Winning 2 events, were Nathan DeMik (13-14 Free and Breaststroke) and Lincoln Kposowa (9-10 50 Free, 25m Breaststroke). Oliver Euceda won the 8U 25m Backstroke.

The Boys (Lincoln Kposowa, Carlos Idol, Nathan DeMik and Dillion Mossman) won the 9-18 200m Free Relay with a time of 2:22.90.

The Marlin Girls had some stiff competition with just one win (Audrey Mima, 50m Fly).  The best racing of the meet however, had to be the Girls 15-18 50M backstroke and 100IM with Audrey Mima placing second in both events by mere hundredths..You go girl!

BSR@MC 2023 Home Opener, Marlins Fall to BSR.

The Marlins opened the season with a meet at home against Belair Swim & Racquet.  The Marlins, now under Head Coach Jair Jackson and swimming in PMSL Division C, had several good swims but fell short, losing the meet 289 (BSR) to 235 (Marlins).

For the Boys,  winning all 3 of their events, were Carlos Idol (11-12 Butterfly, Breaststroke and IM), Kazuki Reeves (13-14 Butterfly, Backstroke & IM) and Oliver Euceda (8U Freestyle, Backstroke & IM).  Winning 2 events, Nathan DeMik (13-14 Free and Breaststroke).  The Boys (David Henkin, Carlos Idol, Kazuki Reeves and Dillion Mossman) won the 9-18 200M Free Relay with a time of 2:19.43.

For the Girls,  Cicely Kirages, Isabel Tenny, Audrey Mima and Sara Keita started the meet off with a big win in the Girls 200M Medley Relay, winning with a time of 2:32.71. Audrey Mima also won 3 individual events (15-18 Freestyle, Breaststroke and Backstroke). Sachi Reeves won the 11-12 50M Breaststroke with a time of 49.42.

Marlins “Land” a win @home vs Kings Landing

The Marlins landed a much needed win Saturday hosting Kings Landing.  After a long dry spell, the Marlins chalked up a “W” with outstanding swims by several Marlins.  Triple winners were Jair Jackson (Boys 15-18 Butterfly, Breastroke and IM) and Sachi Reeves (Girls 9-10 Freestyle, Breaststroke and IM).  Jair broke his own breaststroke team and pool records with a time of 31.71.  Double winners were Braxton Darif, Sarah Mima, Dillion Middlebusher and Amiyah Guerra. Congratulations to the Marlin swimmers and coaches!

Marlins and Russet Square Off in Narrow Loss

The Marlins faced a determined Russet team on Saturday and ended down by 5 points in a tough loss to its cross town neighbor. (Russet 278, Marlins 273). The coaches swam up Kazuki Reeves from age 11-12 to 13-14 to fill in for missing swimmers, with Kazuki winning all his events! Nathan Demik was able to keep the 11-12 boys solid with a triple win in all of his events as well.  Sarah Mima won the 15-18 girls, 50M Fly and 50M Backstroke,  not to be outdone, Sarah’s sister Audrey, won the 15-18 girls 50M Breaststroke. The Darif family added big points with wins by Addyson, (girls 13-14 50M free in 32.77, 50M Breastroke in 45.56), Braxton (boys 9-10 25M Backstroke in 23.58) and Lilly placing in several 15-18 girls events. Jair Jackson was his usual best easily winning all 3 of his events.

For Russet,  an amazing Sydney Campbell broke Julie Scovell’s 45 year old MC pool record swimming a 30.84 in the 11-12 girls 50 fly. Sydney also set a PMSL league and pool record in the 11-12 50M Freestyle with a time of 28.38, a record held by Carole Sharpless since 1984.

Veterans Anchor the Marlins in Season Opener

The Marlins fell to Belair Bath & Tennis (BBT) this past Saturday in an exciting season opener (BBT 332, Marlins 223).

The Marlins won both opening 200 Medley relays really pumping up the swimmers and spectators!  For the boys, Kazuki Reeves, Joe Norton, Jair Jackson & Isaiah Cooper won in 2:15.37. For the girls, Cicely Kirages, Audrey Mima, Catherine Norton and Lilly Darif won in 2:28.19.

Triple winners were Kazuki Reeves, Sarah Mima and Jair Jackson.  Double winners were Audrey Mima, Sachi Reeves and Genesis Usquiano.

The Marlins are swimming in very competitive C Division for 2022.
